Satu lagi persembahan Indonesia untuk dunia

Di bulan September 2012, sekitar 200 ilmuwan Indonesia yang tertarik kepada bidang biomaterial telah berkumpul dalam simposium nasional pertama tentang biomaterial di IPB. Sebuah bidang baru di Indonesia yang bersifat multidisiplin dan sedang menarik minat banyak peneliti. Setahun kemudian, Masyarakat Biomaterials Indonesia (Indonesian Biomaterials Society), asosiasi profesional yang bertujuan mengembangkan ilmu dan teknologi biomaterial dan alat kesehatan, secara resmi didirikan. Salah satu dari keinginan kuat asosiasi yang baru lahir ini adalah untuk menulis sebuah buku sebagai sarana memperkenalkan dan menyebarluaskan hasil penelitian ilmuwan biomaterial Indonesia kepada dunia. Setelah menghadapi banyak tantangan selama proses publikasi, akhirnya terbitlah buku berjudul:“Biomaterials and Medical Devices: A Perspective from An Emerging Country”, dengan penerbit buku kelas dunia: Springer International.

Buku ini tersusun dari 10 bab yang membahas ilmu biomaterial dan alat kesehatan dengan perkembangan terkini dari Indonesia, termasuk arahan dan kebijakan pemerintah. Secara khusus, buku ini mengetengahkan keperluan khas dari pelayanan kesehatan di Indonesia, melimpahnya potensi sumber alam untuk biomaterial, serta peluang dan tantangan pengembangan alat kesehatan di Indonesia. Dengan 255 juta penduduknya, 900 miliar dolar GDP dengan 5% pertumbuhan tahunan, dan angka harapan hidup 72 tahun, Indonesia merupakan negara berkembang (emerging country) dengan potensi ekonomi yang dahsyat. Pemerintah telah meluncurkan program pelayanan kesehatan menyeluruh, yang dalam satu sisi merangsang pengembangan biomaterial, dengan target kemandirian nasional dalam memproduksi alat kesehatan. Sebagai gambaran, tingkat kecelakaan lalulintas yang tinggi dan seringnya terjadi bencana gempa ternyata bermuara juga pada tingginya kasus patah tulang yang memerlukan tindakan operasi dan ketersediaan implan ortopedi dengan jumlah memadai dan harga terjangkau.

Buku ini adalah buah dari kerjasama erat sejumlah ahli biomaterial Indonesia (engineer, scientist, orthopaedic surgeon, dentist, veterinarian, etc.) dari berbagai universitas, rumah sakit dan badan pemerintah. Buku ini dapat menjadi rujukan bagi para peneliti untuk mengarahkan penelitiannya, bagi industri untuk mengembangkan dan memasarkan produknya, dan bagi pemerintah untuk mengarahkan kebijakan barunya.Pembaca akan merasakan semangat kebangsaan yang kuat dari para penulis untuk mewujudkan kemandirian nasional dalam memproduksi alat kesehatan yang inovatif, efektif dan terjangkau. Perspektif dan pelajaran dari Indonesia dapat kemudian diterapkan untuk pengembangan biomaterial dan alat kesehatan di negara berkembang lainnya yang menghadapi tantangan yang serupa.

Semoga buku ini menjadi inspirasi bagi lebih banyak lagi ilmuwan Indonesia untuk berani mempersembahkan karya-karya terbaik mereka di tingkat internasional, menjadi jago tandang bukan lagi jago kandang.

Developing Country Sponsorship Awards

WBC 2016 DEVELOPING COUNTRY SPONSORSHIP (DCS) GUIDELINES
(post-doctoral fellows and scientists only)

Application Deadline: September 15, 2015
Notification of Acceptance: December 5, 2015

Postdoctoral fellows and other scientists can apply for a Developing Country Sponsorship award.


Award Details:

The final award details will be announced with the notification letter. At minimum, a free registration can be expected.


Disclaimer:

The selected individuals will be responsible for their travel, ground transportation (taxis), accommodations, meals, cost for visa application and other incidentals. It is highly recommended that the selected individuals carry travel insurance. Neither WBC, WBC 2016 Montreal Inc. nor its PCO will be responsible or liable for any medical expenses, lost luggage or any other expenses.


Guidelines:

  1. WBC 2016 developing country sponsorship awards are for postdoctoral fellows and scientists, traveling to the Congress from low income and lower-middle income countries (as specified by the World Bank).
  2. The recipient of a fellowship grant will be restricted to the presenter of an abstract.
  3. The selection of recipients of all awards will be made by the scientific committee, based on the scientific merit of the abstract submitted for presentation and the described need as expressed in the cover letter.
  4. Award recipients will be notified by e-mail shortly after the selection of oral and poster presentations is completed by the scientific committee.
  5. Award winners will be honoured during the Opening Ceremonies or during a Plenary session with a special announcement.

How to apply:

Create an account on our management website (cm.wbc2016.org) and submit an abstract. Once submitted click on the Developing Country Sponsorship Award link in the main dashboard. Once there, you must upload the following materials:

  • copy of your CV (maximum 2 pages)
  • cover letter of approx. 100 words outlining the reasons why you require sponsorship to attend the WBC 2016 Congress

Only complete applications (abstract, CV and statement) will be reviewed.


Notification:

Award winners will be notified tentatively on December 5, 2015. Winners will be expected to apply promptly for their visa.

Winners must confirm their approved visa with proof by April 1, 2016. In the event that a visa has been denied, the winner will forfeit his award and WBC 2016 will be able to offer this award to another candidate.

The conference will highlight recent and significant advances in research and development in science, technology, and interdisciplinary works. It will cover all aspects of science and technology especially in the area of sustainable development. Promoting advances of science and technology in support to green and sustainable development will be the aim of the conference.

IC-Star 2015 divided into several sections related but not limited to the following scientific tracks:

Section 1, Engineering and Technology: Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering; Mechanical and Industrial; Geophysics; Aeronautics; Mining and Materials; Chemical and Environmental; Civil and Architecture; Computer & Information Technology.

Section 2, Life and Applied Science: Mathematics; Physics and Biophysics; Nano- and Quantum Sciences; Biosciences and Bioinformatics; Basic and Applied Chemistry; Astronautics and Astronomy.

All topics are open to academic, research and industry contribution, including policy development, technical report, and research in progress.

PAPER SUBMISSION:

Papers should clearly demonstrate the research or practical contribution, the relevance to the field, and the relation to prior work. Submitted papers will be evaluated according to their novelty, significance, originality, technical quality, and exposition. Prospective authors are invited to submit original and previously unpublished paper in DOC or PDF format via conference submission system http://conference.unila.ac.id/index.php/icstar/.

Submission contribution for review may include:

  • regular papers (max 6 pages)
  • short papers (work in progress) (2-4 pages)
  • extended abstracts ( 2 pages)
  • posters ( 2 pages)

The camera ready paper should be in regular version (4 to max 6 pages). All accepted extended abstract will be included in the conference proceeding. Selected papers will be published in Journal of Applied Research and Technology(indexed in SCI Thomson, Impact Factor 0.447 and Scopus); or Trans Tech Publication Inc. (Scopus indexed); or ARPN Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences (Scopus indexed); or IOP Science, Journal of Physics: Conference Series (Inspec and Scopus indexed).
